The real story behind "Jumped The Shark"

fonziejh.jpg

There are many who believe that the downfall of "Happy Days" began when Fonzie "jumped the shark" on water skis.

What many don't know is that it almost jumped before it even began. The original "Fonzie" ("Joel Fonzerelli"), shown above in a rare studio promotional photo, was replaced by his cousin "Arthur Fonzerelli". Producers, directors, fellow actors and the Live Studio Audience just couldn't work with Joel.

Personally, I believe the show began it's decline by hiring Ted McGinley, thereby imposing the death penalty on itself (always remember, the first sign that a TV show is headed downhill, is when Ted gets a job). But, that's just one man's opinion.
